How to Navigate a Mental Health Crisis

The "How to Navigate a Mental Health Crisis" workshop was offered by the Hope for Mental Health Initiative of Saddleback Church in cooperation with NAMI OC. This training will give you the tools to recognize the precipitating events leading up to a crisis, what you need to know to help yourself or your loved one through the crisis, how to follow up afterwards, as well as ways to connect with on-going support.

Portable Health Record

During a period of mental stability, it’s helpful to create a short personal medical record that contains past mental health medical treatments (including hospitalizations), names, and contact information for physicians, medications, and dates of treatment, along with any medication reactions and/or treatment outcomes. Emergency contacts can be included, as well as other pertinent health conditions and medications that might affect what mental health treatment is offered in an emergency.

NAMI's Approach to Calling 911 and Engaging with Police During a Crisis

If a situation escalates into a crisis, you may have to call the police. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to keep the situation as calm as possible.
